What the free registration check does
Enter the current registration and confirm that the returned vehicle details match the car. The available MOT timeline can show recorded tests, mileage and notes. That is useful when preparing questions for a seller or checking the chronology of your own paperwork.
MOT results are not an itemised service record. A pass cannot establish that oil, filters or other scheduled work was completed. Keep that distinction in mind before deciding that a free check has recovered the maintenance history.
Where maintenance evidence comes from
Manufacturer-held entries, workshop invoices and a paper service book may all contribute. Access routes vary by manufacturer: Toyota, for example, directs owners to MyToyota or a dealer for available history. Work recorded elsewhere may need to be obtained from the workshop involved.
A paid vehicle-data service may support a registration-based request for certain records. That does not establish universal manufacturer, year or field coverage. Check the product scope for the individual vehicle before ordering.
Prepare the information that helps resolve gaps
- Use the current registration and confirm the returned vehicle.
- Keep the VIN privately available if a legitimate manufacturer or workshop needs it.
- Gather earlier invoices, including documents carrying a previous registration.
- Ask the seller for missing dates and work descriptions, rather than relying on “full history”.
What FMSH offers at this stage
Our free MOT check and My Garage are available now. Manufacturer-history purchases remain in preparation. You can review the planned report and clearly labelled examples, but no paid retrieval is currently being offered.
Start with the free check, then compare the result with the evidence you already hold. An empty digital result, when retrieval becomes available, will need to be interpreted as an absence from that source rather than proof that the car was never serviced.
